The Holy Father announced the intention to celebrate a Day of Prayer and Fasting on Saturday 7th September 2013, in order to pray for peace in Syria, in the Middle East, and in the whole world. Pope Francis will preside over a Vigil of Prayer on the evening of the same day, from 7 p.m. to midnight in St. Peter’s Square, and would like all churches around the world to join in this event
Prayer and Intercession for Peace in Syria
God of Compassion,
Hear the cries of our brothers and sisters in Syria;
Comfort those who suffer violence;
Console those who mourn the dead;
Give strength to those in neighbouring countries who welcome the refugees;
Convert the hearts of those who have taken up arms;
And protect those who are working for peace;
God of hope,
Inspire all leaders to choose peace over violence;
To seek reconciliation over enmity;
Inflame the Universal Church with compassion for the people of Syria
And give us insight and courage to build a future of justice for all.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace and Light of the world.
Amen
