PLANS APPROVED – AT LAST!
At last we can announce that the plans for the Denis Hurley Centre were officially approved by the eThekwini (Durban) Municipality on 26 April, after a long and tortuous process. We give thanks that we can now proceed without further delay. The tender documents were sent to contractors who will be competing in the tender process over the next few weeks. Potential contractors attended an obligatory site meeting on 26 April to familiarise themselves with the location and get further technical information from Ken Froise, Project Manager, and several professional consultants involved. The results of the adjudication process will be presented to the Archdiocesan Building Committee on 17 May. The site will then be handed over to the successful contractor and building operations will commence in June.

Death of Chris Hurley
Chris Hurley, the youngest brother of Archbishop Denis, died in Canberra, Australia, at the age of 92 on 18 April ‐ his wife Ursula and one of his daughters, Mikaela, who lives in Durban were with him. Chris had recently been diagnosed with cancer.
A teacher and headmaster of several Marist schools in South Africa and Australia, Chris was the co‐founder and second headmaster of Thomas More College in Kloof, KwaZulu‐Natal. He was known as a progressive and innovative educational leader who made a major contribution to educational development in South Africa. He was regarded as an outstanding teacher by all his students and colleagues.
Chris was the youngest of the four Hurley siblings, the others being Eileen, Denis and Jerry. Our sincere sympathies to Ursula, Mikaela and all members of the Hurley family.
