HURLEY WEEKEND AT EMMANUEL CATHEDRAL
A full programme is being planned to mark the annual Hurley Weekend which this year takes place from 19 - 21 March. Members of other parishes are invited to attend these events marking the 6th anniversary of the Archbishop’s death on 13 February 2004.

 

FRIDAY 19 MARCH
Anniversary of Archbishop Hurley’s Episcopal ordination in Emmanuel Cathedral (1947)

6.30 p.m. All Night Eucharistic Vigil

Homily at all three Masses by Fr Peter-John
Theme:  “The Christian response to injustice: “SEE - JUDGE - ACT”
People attending all Masses this weekend will be asked to bring flowers to put on Archbishop Hurley’s grave. On Monday 22 March these will be given to an AIDS Hospice.

 

3.00 p.m. PUBLIC MEETING IN THE CATHEDRAL
Theme: “EXCITING TIMES - THE DENIS HURLEY CENTRE MOVES AHEAD”
Presided over by Cardinal Napier.

The meeting will include:

  • Singing – led by the Cathedral’s prizewinning isiZulu Choir;
  • Prayers for the success of the Denis Hurley Centre Project;
  • Report back on progress made since the launch of the fundraising drive on 15 February 2009;
  • Introduction of the Patrons of the Denis Hurley Centre;
  • Introduction of Rubin Reddy Architects;
  • Launch of “Friends of the Denis Hurley Centre”;
  • Refreshments and entertainment by the “Presidential Drums from Burundi”
