FAREWELL TO SISTER ANNETTE ST. AMOUR, IHM
In October 1985 the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters were invited to South Africa by the Redemptorists to assist with the pastoral work of the Howick parish which included Mpophomeni. Sister Annette was part of that pastoral team. In 1990 Sister opted to live in Mpophomeni Township and she set up a small house next to the parish church of St Anne. She worked among the people there until in 1996 she was offered the task of Catechetical Coordinator (English) in the Archdiocese of Durban.
Sister Annette and Mrs. Emily Mthethwa, together with an assistant (first Ms. Thembile Ndlovu and now Mrs. Joana Khumalo) have worked as Co-ordinators of Catechetics in the Archdiocese. Sister Annette introduced many innovative and enriching ideas, methods and programmes in the field of Catechetics i.e. Good Shepherd Catechesis, SPRED and the highly successful and formative Catechetical Festival. We will miss Sister Annette as she takes her giftedness and expertise to the people of South Sudan.
